The first major achievement of The Friends of Abingdon was the rescue of the remaining lay buildings of the ancient Abingdon Abbey and this has remained a major pre-occupation. However from the first the society has taken a lead in moves to preserve the best of the town and enhance it with appropriate development. The Friends of Abingdon has had powerful supporters and has been able to halt or obtain modification to many proposals which they considered inappropriate as well as promoting the restoration and preservation of neglected buildings.

The Society has played a major part over the years in many other projects.  Click on the list to read more.
