Planning matters
The Friends of Abingdon, appropriate to its role as a Civic Society, keep a watching brief over planning insofar as it applies to Abingdon (as defined by the boundaries of the old Abingdon Borough). For this purpose the Friends have appointed a small number of active members of its executive council to a sub-committee which regularly monitors the activities of Vale of White Horse District Council, who are the local planning authority, and those of the planning subcommittee of Abingdon Town Council which has powers of reccommendation to the planning authority. The Friends submit opinions as appropriate in the interests of "promoting high standards of planning, conservation and regeneration for the benefit of their local communities".
