The Choose Abingdon Partnership
- communicating and promoting what is good about the town;
- influencing the agendas of the councils and others who have a role in the development
of the town;
- co-ordinating activities which don't fall neatly into the remits of other bodies.
Some examples of their activities are:
- Promoting events in the town via quarterly "What's On" leaflets and articles in other
local publications.
- Running quarterly "Local Excellence" Markets to promote local businesses and meet
the demand for Saturday markets
- Providing practical support to community groups including setting up the Community
Shop where they can demonstrate their activities and helping to promote their events.
They even provide gazebos for groups to hire at token cost.
- Introducing the "Choose Abingdon" loyalty card to encourage residents to shop locally
- Replacing the outdated town maps with new attractive and informative designs and
publishing leaflets about walks in the area.
Friends of Abingdon work closely with the Partnership on specific projects such as
the Community Shop and the Town Maps and also contribute to its overall activities
via the community representative on the Partnership Board.
The Friends of Abingdon has been working with the Choose Abingdon Partnership (ChAP)
since its inception in 2009. ChAP has representatives from the town, district and
county councils, from local businesses and from community groups.
