The Community Shop and its use as a Music Centre

In spring 2010 the Choose Abingdon Partnership (ChAP) Manager negotiated with the owners of the Abingdon Shopping Centre for one of the vacant units there to be made available for community use. It quickly became very popular with community groups who qwertyuiop

were able to book it free of charge for a week or two to demonstrate their activities and raise their profile. Groups using it have represented such diverse interests as cycling, peace, environmental issues, mental health, local history, cinema, the church, printmaking, a hydro project and various art forms. It also provides a useful venue for displays and consultations relating to plans for Abingdon. Public feedback has been good, with people appreciating having something different to look at when they are in town: some groups have reported up to 200 visitors in one day.
